WOOLWORTHS STAFF CAFETERIA

Challenge
Design a 600 seat dining facility in the atrium of Woolworths headquarters, including 2 cafes and a full buffet cafeteria to provide fast service for 2,000 staff. Ensure the venue also has flexibility to be used to hold major staff meetings.
Solution
WMK’s knowledge of food and beverage operations, and user behaviour was key to planning a facility that caters for serving 2,000 diners in a 2 hour lunch period. We created 5 distinct dining offers in completely different spatial envelopes including a raised central area with removable screens allowing view lines to the whole space for staff meetings.
By using materials, lighting, furniture and texture we developed differing ambiences between atrium cafés, lounge seating, a full run buffet-service cafeteria, intimate formal areas and outdoor dining.
Outcome
The design has been a huge success delivering a choice of eating and meeting spaces with fresh appeal that suit the Woolworths culture and add to the staff and visitor experience.
